And Of The Son, Synopsis

Return to Screenplays.

Twenty years ago a tragic accident took the life of a celebrated police detective,—and left behind a son to bear the scars. Practically alone in the world, the youngster grows up disillusioned and withdrawn, challenging authority, spending time in juvenile homes, and holding nothing sacred except his father’s memory. But in spite of his troubled upbringing, the young man has often exhibited traces of those particular gifts which allowed his father to rise so rapidly in the ranks of the New York City police force. A keen observant eye, unwavering courage, an extraordinary intuitiveness, and a fierce determination are all vestiges of his father’s legacy manifest in him, which have yet to be properly focused or put to the test.

Now a young adult, and still struggling with a lingering tendency for self-destruction, Harry Valentine decides to give his life some purpose by following in his father’s footsteps. Disqualified for police service due to a misspent youth filled with assault and petty larceny convictions, Harry decides to go it alone,—and opens up his own private detective agency.

Months of mostly squalid business is interrupted when the body of a young man is discovered in a wooded area east of the city. An anxious father suspects a connection between his missing daughter and the unidentified corpse. Harry is commissioned to find her. As the investigation proceeds and the casualties continue to rise with a series of suspicious deaths, the young detective discovers that the seeds of corruption and murder were sown twenty years earlier, and are linked to his own father’s final unsolved case.

Fueled by a strong, unyielding faith in his own abilities, Harry’s search for answers to the long, cold trail of questions becomes perilous when the evidence begins to lead to one of the most powerful and respected men in the country, who harbours a secret he will do anything to protect. Risking it all in a dangerous quest to capture a killer, Harry realizes that uncovering the truth may also be the key to achieving an elusive inner-peace that he had almost given up hoping for. A peace that may finally be possible when justice is done…
